I do think Minor Keith's main purpose for his actions was largely economical. However, because of his ties with Costa Rica government he had some political control or influence too. Because he brought Costa Rica the railroad and ways to export their crops like their coffee he was appreciated and seen as very important. Therefore, later on when the workers of United Fruit tried to strike they were basically forced to not by their government. A strike could not happen because it would devastate the banana business and Minor Keith's pockets. That political influence and ties also reminds me how it is similar to the federal government initiatives as well. But I agree one big main difference was military strategy for America. Both groups in my opinion went against what was ethical with the main reason being money. Manifest Destiny was also an interesting idea during this time as it went against many of the beliefs of American's during this time. It was seen as unethical. The way the US went about taking over other nations was through force and because of political influence and strategies.
