I too read similar information about these questions. It is so unbelievable when you read through or listen to these resources this week. How could our Supreme Court possibly allow forcible sterilization? How is this humane and okay to do? How could they not see that they were targeting populations and trying to control reproduction of groups they did not want in this world essentially? It is just another awful injustice that women had to face. Our government did not protect them and did not do their job.
The story about Billie Holiday was new to me. I was not aware of her awful childhood or how they targeted her to use her as an example and essentially silence her. She is a very powerful example of courage and strength to overcome. She was a leader who went against the odds to be heard. She was an example of how people are violated because of their past addictions, their awful upbringings and pasts, and how the government held back African Americans especially women. It was just such a sad yet inspirational story. It goes to show you no one can be silenced if they are fighting for something true to their heart.
The Roaring 20s is probably one of the greatest eras to look at. My daughter often loves talking about their clothing, music, and lifestyles. She is almost 14. She found it to be one of the most interesting eras she learned about in school. I too love listening to jazz and looking at the art during that time. It really brought some beauty and different perspectives into our history.
Thanks for sharing.
