This era of history was very interesting for me to learn about. It seems like a lot of shifts began in the 1920's with the rise of mass production, credit systems and the jazz age being one of my favorites. I think describing it as a time of progress vs resistance is a good way of describing it as there was lots of new things happening and being introduced, which also came with the government standing ground on strict immigration policies like you mention and lot of economic inequality. With that there was also racial tension still happening in the country leading to people like Harry Anslinger targeting Billie Holiday and other minorities.
