Transcript of the Grade Me Block video:
Hello everybody. In this video, I will show you how to add the grade me block to your course and then how to use it. The grade me block will be added to the right hand margin in your block drawer. Uh, once we've got it added, it will show up in this list, and in the grade me block you will see whenever you enter the course, any assignments that need your attention. Things have been handed in, submitted by students, but that have not yet been graded, those will show up inside the grade new block and you can navigate to them.
Let me show you how to install it, and then I'll show you how to use it. Uh, first of all, in order to install it, we're going to turn on editing mode up here at the top, click the add a block button at the top of the block drawer, scroll down to grade me. Choose that and you'll notice it will show up in the list.
Now where it shows up in the list would depend on which blocks that you have. Here I have one called grade me and you see right now there is nothing to grade. So let's go add something to the uh the assignment and or add an assignment and uh we'll see how to go and navigate to it.
Now, the first thing I need to do is go log myself on is Dewey Cheetum, and Dewey is going to hand in an assignment and let's make sure I can log in is Dewey. OK, and do we will go to the assignment that's called a test. And Dewey adds a submission, and he will go find on the desktop the assignment that's called Dewey, and we will hand that in. And submit and there we go.
OK, so now you'll notice for Dewey, this has been submitted for grading, yeah, it's late, but Dewey hands in everything late, um, but it's not been graded yet. OK, so now when I go and log out as Dewey and log back on as myself, you will notice. That the grade me block now shows there is a new submission for test. You will notice that Dewey has handed something and now if I click on Dewey's name, I'm just gonna go and see his profile. That's not really interesting to me. In order to go and grade it, you would click on the assignment that's called test. And you will see I can then go to grade and we'll be able to to notice here's Dewey's paper and it opens right up in the uh the annotation tool that we have here and you can go and add whatever comments you want to it, uh. The grade for Dewey, give him feedback, and then save the changes.
Now, in order to get this to work, I do need to add a grade for Dewey, and he didn't do very well on this. I will save those changes, and now that has been uh graded. When I navigate now back to the course. You will notice that now there is nothing to grade because I went through graded all of the work that was handed in, so now there's nothing to grade.
OK, so that tool, and actually some folks have used what was called the Ned NED marking manager in the past. That's not compatible with the new version of Moodle, uh, this grade me block is and from my point of view, the grade me block is a little easier to use, uh, less clutter that shows up in it, uh, but you can use this to, to quickly identify those works or those assignments that have been submitted that you need to take a look at.
Transcript for the Hide Grade Me video:
As useful as the grade me block is for instructors, it can be distracting for students. Unfortunately, the grade me block has to be hidden from students on a per course basis. So if you decide to install it, please follow these steps to hide it from students. First, enable editing. In the gear menu for the grade me block, click permissions. In the advanced roll override menu, choose student. And set the view block to prohibit, then save changes. This is Dewey Cheatham's view of the course before the grade me block has been hidden. Notice when I refresh the page, it disappears for Dewey.
