What is the appeals process?

Students placed on academic suspension or dismissal can submit an academic standing appeal. The appeal process is as follows:

1. Submit the Academic Standing appeal form. These appeals are reviewed by the Academic Standing Working Group. Your appeal should address the following:
   • Tell us about what you are like when you are at your best. What helps you feel focused, confident, and productive?
   • What has impacted your ability to be academically successful at GCC in previous semesters? Depending on your experience these might be academic, personal or other challenges.
   • If you have taken time away from GCC, what steps have you taken to prepare for a successful return to your studies?
   • What academic and non-academic resources or strategies do you plan to use to support your success at GCC?
   • What are your short and long-term academic goals? For example earning a degree, transferring to another program, learning particular skills, etc.
2. Once your letter of appeal has been received you will meet with a member of the Academic Standing Working Group to review your appeal. These meetings can be in-person or virtual. In this meeting you will discuss your circumstances and create a success plan to help you move forward.
3. A member of the Academic Standing Working Group will contact you via email after this meeting to inform you of the result of your appeal and share your next steps.
4. If your appeal is granted, complete a returning student application.
5. Register for classes!
