  • The Teaching and Learning Innovation Center encourages effective teaching and learning in all spaces, both physical and online, in the college. Our current endeavors include:

    Call us for tips and troubleshooting of Clear Touch units, SMARTBoards, classroom projectors, AV support and staffing in public spaces and rooms, Moodle support (both technical and classroom design), using our Multimedia Studio, or for help with Zoom meetings and other recording tasks. 



    • Gary's picture

      Dr. Gary Ackerman joined GCC in February 2019 when he was hired to be the coordinator of instructional technology He was named the first director of the Teaching and Learning Innovation Center in July 2021. 

      Gary's career in education is now in its fourth decade. After 10 years as a science and math teacher, he spent almost 20 years managing information technology in schools, teaching computer courses, and teaching teachers. For the last 12 years or so, Gary has focused on faculty development, instructional design, and online teaching. He has held positions at several K-12 schools and supervisory unions in Vermont and also at Mount Wachusett Community College. He has been an adjunct faculty member at the community college, undergraduate, and graduate level since 1998, much of that teaching has been done online. 

      Gary continues to be active in the educational research community in New England and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology.

    • A woman wearing glasses and a green patterned shirt poses for a professional headshot. Catherine Gees joined GCC in the spring of 2025 as the Coordinator of Instructional Technology. 

      Prior to GCC, she worked in public libraries, teaching users of all ages about emerging technology. 


    • You will often find Jon at campus-wide events, using a variety of AV technologies including cameras, microphones, live-streaming equipment, and more. He also engages in creation of audiovisual content for the institution ranging from instructional media to commercial and creative/narrative content. Additionally he can assist you with troubleshooting your classroom/office AV needs and finding solutions.

      Several classrooms and conference rooms at GCC have Owl Pro cameras installed. In addition, the Teaching and Learning Innovation Center has two Owl Pro cameras that can be installed in classrooms or conference rooms for specific events or short-term projects.
