The Civil War led a huge path of destruction and what eventually led to the Reconstruction Era. It’s important to understand that during this time there were some major differences between the North and the South. The South was more agricultural, full of lots more land and farms and not as wealthy and responsible for most of the slavery that was ongoing during this time. The North was more primarily focused on the industrial manufacturing, very city like and had complete different views on slavery than the south which ultimately led to the conflict as we know study it today as the Civil War. Each party also had such different political views that also were a major contributor conflict on both sides , The North’s politicians showed a lot of support for federal power , policies and regulations whereas The South supported less involvement of federal power and advocated for states’ rights. As time continued to move forward and other territories were opening up in the West this led to so much more intense arguments over if slavery should be allowed which also led to more conflict and dividing of both parties. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860 knowing he stood against everything the south believed in especially anti-slavery this led for The South to completely part ways with the Union in which the Civil War was unfortunately born. These past events are what led to the Reconstruction and allowed for a lot of the changes that were made and a lot of the changes that continue on in history. Understanding the importance differences of why these two parties had such different view points allow for a much better understanding of their past allows a lot more to understand the Reconstruction Era and everything that came with it.
