Our class begins in 1865 when the country turned its eyes from war to recovery. We begin with the Reconstruction Era, but before we begin that discussion, it is important to have some historical context. The Reconstruction Era was characterized by federal intervention on behalf of newly freed people. The country was beginning to consider what the nation would be after four years of bloody war. What do you think is important to understand about the country's past before we begin our discussion on Reconstruction? Provide evidence from reliable sources in your response.
