Yes the Civil War was a rough time in history. It was a necessary time that also caused a lot of change. That change came with a lot of new things for the country to address due to the South's dependency on slaves for their use of labor. I think uncertainty is good work to use to describe America post Civil War. The South had a lot of things to figure out, as did the newly freed slaves and everybody's overall lack of resources. The money comparison you talked about between the North and the South is a huge difference. The environmental damage post Civil War was something that had an effect on America as well. There was a lot of rebuilding being done that effected many.
