Hi Taela,
The American Civil War was a gruesome battle that we as a nation struggled to get through and overcome. No war is easy but especially a war where we lost so many can be devastating to our country. Also, even though the war had ended, it really had just begun. Changing how the South viewed slavery and their dislike of loosing the war, and the abolishment of slavery, was difficult for them to overcome and accept. Getting everyone on board with these new laws was an extremely difficult challenge for our country. These changes obviously were historical and so important for our country. But even with laws and changes it takes awhile for a majority of people to believe in these new laws and evolve into a better country. Thanks for sharing these important facts and timeline information as it is so important to understand as we begin to learn about the Reconstruction Period.
