Hi Kathy,

Your thoughts are on point. I do feel that this was a great period in time as it helped our country get to the right path towards abolishing slavery and gaining rights for all people. Even though it was signed into law by Lincoln your right many people were not on board and not happy. They tried everything in their power to stop it or make it more difficult for newly freed people to have the rights they deserve. I also really enjoy reading and researching Lincoln as I think he was a great president in our history. I can only imagine how difficult it was during the Reconstruction Period to rebuild our country and get everyone to take their part in it as well. The Klu Klux Klan has always been a group that in history has caused so much pain and fears in many. It is truly saddening that people are so extreme and against freedoms for all people that they are part of groups like this. I would say the battle is something even going on today.
