I enjoyed reading your response. The rolling back of just won rights had to be absolutely horrendous, especially when it was coming with renewed violence and hate. So many people were thrown into the fire of white terrorism with no continuing support for them. You said white supremacy scares you, and I totally agree. The acts that hateful people will commit are genuinely horrifying. It is frightening how easily people with this mentality will just turn and start to kill, beat, strip human rights. I think what scares me the most about it is the sheer number of people who behaved and continue to behave this way. They are still out there, barely reigned in, waiting for someone to give them any reason to hurt someone for daring to be black. That it has gone on this long, and that they are becoming louder again. The reconstruction was a failure to black Americans and this country continues to fail them.
