Hello Shawn,
I agree that The Reconstruction Era was a very important part of American History. It was a drastic, needed change for African Americans. The country and the South struggled with this new way of life, society and economy. African Americans may have had more rights but still did not have the tools set up for them to live, forcing a lot of them to stay on their plantations. The allowance and support from the president of states creating their own laws definitely supported the continuance of black segregation and suppression. Overall an ugly part of American history.
