Hey Kayleigh! I really enjoyed reading your response! You did a great job highlighting the key amendments that defined the Reconstruction Era and explaining their impact on formerly enslaved individuals. I completely agree that the 14th Amendment was one of the most significant legal shifts during this period, as it provided crucial protections that laid the foundation for future civil rights advancements.I also found your analysis of the challenges posed by the Redeemers and white supremacist groups to be very insightful. It's unfortunate that while these amendments were designed to promote equality, many African Americans still faced significant barriers. I think you captured the complexity very well. One point l'd love to hear more about is how you think the Reconstruction amendments influenced later movements, such as the Civil Rights Movement of the 20th century.
