YouTube Live
You Tube Live allows those with G Suite accounts to use web cameras and microphones on their Windows or Macintosh computers (going live on mobile devices is not allowed) to create videos. The videos can be watched as they are being captured (hence "live") and they are also recorded into the users' studio.youtube.com library where they can be edited and managed.
A few things to keep in mind when using YouTube Live:
- The recording is not interactive. There is a chat tool that is live during the session and that is part of the recording, but viewers cannot otherwise interact with the video.
- When you create the session, make sure to set the visibility as "unlisted."
- You cannot share your screen, so any slides, images, or other documents need to be provided elsewhere. (Some instructors will provide students with documents, and then hold up a hard copy saying for example "on slide four, you see a graph..." and they will explain it. Others will write on a whiteboard that has been places\d at the right spot. Some find other materials too difficult to work with, so they use other tools if they have other materials that are essential to the presentation.)
Directions for using YouTube Go Live are on this PDF file (this includes both steps for connecting in the way demonstrated in the video plus directions for recording and uploading YouTube videos from mobile devices).
YouTube "Go Live" allows G Suite account holder to log on to YouTube and stream video (which is also saved in the "Live" tab in your videos on studio.youtube.com.
Faculty are reminded they have a responsibility to ensure videos have been closed captioned. Directions for the are available here: Adding Closed Captions to Your YouTube Video
