Provide Cues

While it may be clear to you as the instructor what students should do to complete a module or an assignment within the modules, it may not be clear to students who are dividing their attention among several courses and other responsibilities. Consider several strategies for ensuring students find what they need and complete all parts of the assignments:

Use Pages to outline each module:

Pages created using the Atto text editor can compromise formatted text, images, links, embedded video and files, and other elements. The result is students can see the entire week or module in one place. One strategy that has proven effective is to create a page with links to materials in other sections (which students are discouraged from opening, but that cannot be hidden). One disadvantage of this strategy is that students cannot use the "mark as complete" tools.

Other benefits of using a page to organize contents are that teachers can:

      • Use headings, bulleted lists, and other formatting to organize the content
      • Annotate and give context for assignments (e.g. "In this video, you will see the steps for the laboratory exercise you wil complete this week.")
      • Use icons to identify materials (Adding icons to pages suggests a method for doing this).

Add Instructions to quizzes and assignments:

It is tempting to save a few minutes when preparing materials by leaving the "Instructions" box empty when adding quizzes and assignments to your course, but adding these details can help students anticipate what will be on quiz and be sure they have completed all parts of the assignment.
