Entrance Survey: Your Course Strengths and "Pinch Points"
Purpose: Universal Design for Learning can be an effective way to bring a fresh perspective to an aspect of your course that students may struggle with. By taking a moment now to bring to mind one of these "pinch points," you can be prepared to identify which part of the UDL framework that may be most helpful to you and your students.
Instructions: Before you begin this module, please take a moment to think about a course that you teach, and answer the questions about ways in which you are currently meeting students' needs well, and places where students often run into trouble, or have difficulty meeting a key course goal or outcome. (Your responses here will not be shared with other participants.) Start this activity by selecting the button below.

Design Note: By using "warm-up" or "entrance activities" such as this survey to begin a module, you can help recruit interest and assess prior knowledge from your students before presenting content. This is just one example of a UDL strategy you can use in both online and in-person formats!
Moodle Note: This activity is called a "Questionnaire" in Moodle. It allows you to ask a variety of questions of your learners without it being formally graded as a quiz--very useful for low and no-stakes check-ins with your students. You can require learners to complete a questionnaire before opening up other activities--a strategy that we use here to make sure that participants complete these items before entering the final activity for the module.
