This video gives a quick demonstration of how forums work in Moodle. It was created in Moodle 3.12. The appearance is different, and faculty edit the page by clicking the "Edit page" toggle in the top right rather than using the gear menu, but the functions of the forums is still accurate. 




1) Click "Add a new discussion topic"

2) Type your subject and message

3) Click "Post to forum"
